Pierre Moerlen's Gong Paradise Rock club Boston, Mass. September 18, 1980 performance quality: B+ recording quality: B+ source: master audience tape runtime: 95:55 lineage: Realistic twinhead stereo microphone > Sony 158 cassette deck ( dolby off) > Maxell XLII 90 min. master cassette (last 3 tracks XLI, also master cassette) > soundforge 4.5 > FLAC 6 > torrentially yours. A this and that production that also happens to be a You are There production. comments: This show is one of my 10 favorite personal archive recordings that I've made myself. There was a nice streak of good recordings in much of 1980, and this is one of them. The only time I ever got to see Pierre Moerlen, a very underrated player, may be the only time this version of Gong ever played Boston. A crisp inspired show and the crispness of the recording to match. Everything comes through clearly, very little mike obstruction and not too much loud clapping (I did quite a bit of clap peak reduction between songs to be sure of that). This is the whole show, both tape flips were between songs, nothing missing at all. I had always hoped to see Allan Holdsworth perform "Expresso" live with Gong, no Holdsworth on this tour but it did include Expresso and some other very nice material. This band is a real original, I don't hear nearly enough from them and hope to spare others a similar sorry fate because Pierre's edition of Gong is a great band to hear live, even without Allan Holdsworth. I have 3 shows of his to share, the others from Phila. and New Haven are not master sources and not as good a source recording as this one but still quite enjoyable (N.H. is slightly longer even though the last song on it cuts in. This one has no cut songs at all.) Do not sell this recording. Trade freely and losslessly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # MD5 checksums generated by MD5summer (http://www.md5summer.org) # Generated 3/11/2008 1:35:16 AM
