The source was vhs video tape - the audio suffered from several apparent problems, and one rather nasty one hiding in the murk. The source for the vhs tape was soundboard, but the audio was quiet & had been noise gated - probably by an inline hardware gate, and the floor had been set too high causing drop out in quiet places - this was 99% fixed. Also the audio had been severely de-hissed causing a quite dramatic loss of higher frequencies. This was not too obvious when played through television speakers, but when monitored through a decent amp & speakers, or when analized, the deficiency was clearly audiable/visible. This required very carefull restoration so as to avoid any brittleness creeping in, but with many hours work the problem was nicely addressed. During the top end restoration the third and worst problem surfaced - a series of nasty electronic clicks. I suspect these clicks are on the master and where probably introduced somewhere in the signal path between soundboard & recorder (maybe time sync bleedover). With the top end effectivly missing the clicks where all but inaudiable through the tv, but they surfaced with a vengance once it was restored. I spent what seemed like forever carefully removing them one by one ( they where far too bad for a de-clicker), but in the end I managed to reduce them by about 98% - I can still hear the remnants of the odd 1 or 2 but I know where they are - you will have to listen hard to find them ! In the end I am happy with this now - I would give the audio quality an a+, and the show was just sublime :) This is probably the most intense rendition of dynamite you will ever hear - it's actually scary ! Truely classic live gong - enjoy :) Daevid Allen - vocals & electric / acoustic guitar Didier Malherbe (bloomdido bad da grass) - sax & wx7 Keith The Missile Bass - bass guitar & grins Graham Clarke - Fiddles Shaymal maitra - tablas / drums / vox Octave Doktor
